The Eheim SUBSTRATpro is an optimised bio filter medium with perfect volume utilisation, long service life and maximum degradation performance.

The Eheim SUBSTRATpro consists of spherical sintered quartz, the spherical shape allows a high bulk density. The volume in the filter (filter baskets or filter modules) can be fully utilised. In addition, the optimised surface of the balls ensures that the important cleaning bacteria settle well, forming a dense bacterial lawn.
Due to the high number of bacteria, nitrite pollution peaks are better reduced and the service life of the filter material is extended.
EHEIM SUBSTRATpro is suitable for fresh and saltwater, is washable and can be used several times.

The main task of the biological filter material is to offer the best settlement conditions for bacterial cultures so that a bacterial lawn develops after a short time. The bacteria feed on dirt particles of all kinds and convert the substances that are critical for the aquarium. After the first cleaning with mechanical filter media (e.g. EHEIM MECH or MECHpro), the most important thing is biological filtering. It ensures clear, healthy water and stable water values.

Suggestion: Never clean or replace all of the biological filter material in one operation (and never too thoroughly). The bacterial cultures must not be completely destroyed, otherwise, the resettlement will be delayed. The filter baskets in the external filters and the filter modules in the internal filters aquaball and biopower are ideal for partial cleaning.
